Let’s look at something more positive, shall we? The Women’s March of 2017 was one of, if not the biggest, protest in history. There was an estimated 3,267,134 to 5,246,670 participants. The protest began as a Facebook post by a Hawaiian grandmother on the day after Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump in the presidential race. This post spurred the massive protest which came to be known as the Women’s March. The leaders of the Women’s March wanted there to be a revolution. They want to get rid of the Trump administration as well as the largely republican Congress. They are worried that they will get rid of the civil and human rights that people have fought so long and hard for. The 2017 Women’s March took place on January 21, 2017, the first day that President Trump was in office. That was a reported total of 673 marches that took place worldwide, 408 of which took place in the US. The largest of these marches took place in Washington D.C. with an estimated 440,000 to 500,000 participants. Fortunately, no one died during this protests as was the case with the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville that would come later in that year. Women like Scarlett Johansson, Madonna, and Alicia Keys spoke at the march in D.C. It was great to see that we could still come together as a nation, as a planet, in a time of great fear and uncertainty. It shows that you can still have hope in humanity and that good can overcome evil.
